Addiction Counselling
Treatment from addiction and substance misuse includes awareness of the problem, behavior modification, and healthy living habits. We look at the causes and conditions for the addictive behavior. We explore various means to recovery and healthy living. We look at addiction from a disease perspective and help hold one accountable for living sober and making healthy decisions.
Addiction is a clear example of a pattern of behavior which goes against what the person experiencing it wants to do. While people trying to overcome addictive behaviors will often say they want to change those behaviors, and may genuinely want to quit alcohol, drugs, or other compulsive behaviors that are causing them problems, they find it extremely difficult to do so.
According to the cognitive behavioral therapy approach, addictive behaviors, such as drinking, drug use, problem gambling, compulsive shopping, video game addiction, food addiction, and other types of harmful excessive behavior, are the result of inaccurate thoughts and subsequent negative feelings. Dual diagnosis therapy is also available for those who may be impacted with both mental health and substance abuse/ addiction diagnosis. MBH also includes the use of mediation techniques and mindfulness. We also discuss and introduce 12-step recovery. Group sessions with others suffering from addiction are now available.
